A Guide to Choosing the Right Office and Desk Chairs

May 22nd, 2019 | Best Office Furniture

Whether you’re shopping for office furniture for yourself, or for your employees, it’s important that you pick out the right office and desk chairs. Purchasing poorly built chairs in a large quantity won’t do much for office productivity, since everyone will have a sore back and neck problems that result from sitting in a low quality chair for eight hours a day.  Plus, low quality chairs don’t last very long and cost you more in the long run due to needing replacement.

Office and desk chairs today are built for comfort, especially because we sit at computers for long periods of time. When choosing a chair, make sure it will fit the basic comfort needs of everyone receiving one. In the long run, you’ll be glad you did the extra research!

Ergonomic Chairs

One of the most desired types of chairs for the workspace are ergonomic office and desk chairs. They often work for everyone, because they are comfortable enough for people with existing back issues to use on a daily basis. They will also help to prevent the development of future back problems by cradling the spine properly.

Ergonomic chairs can be easily adjusted in regards to height, and typically offer a great deal of lumbar support. Optional headrests and armrests (not every ergonomic chair comes with these) can help you to maintain posture while working as well. These are a great choice for everyone.

Task Chairs

Task chairs are actually more popular than ergonomic chairs, but they don’t offer quite as much support. However, they are still a fantastic choice for everyone in your office, and they typically sit at a better price point. In fact, they are found in the workplace more often than any other chair.

These types of chairs have a very basic design, but they offer plenty of mobility, so you’ll be able to swivel about as you please. Wheels on a desk chair are a major bonus because they help everyone to access things in and around their desks without getting up. Task chairs are typically lined with foam to provide comfort, with adjustable height and various size options.

Executive Chairs

Executive chairs are an incredible addition to any office, but you’ll probably never see an entire office outfitted with them. Perhaps this is where the term “executive chair” comes from.

They are on the pricey side, because they boast fancy features that you won’t find on a run of the mill office chair. The wheels, for example, rotate in all directions, which means they very rarely get stuck on level carpet.

You’ll find a high, luxurious backrest on executive chairs, many with thick foam padding on the seat, back and arms. Executive chairs are typically covered in super soft, comfortable leather as well. It’s possible to place a special order for an executive chair, tailoring it to your specific needs.

Making the Choice

There are other chair options available, such as stacking chairs, conference chairs and guest chairs. All of these are simpler choices, but will work well in any office setting. No matter which office and desk chairs you decide to place in your workspace, make comfort the top priority, with function coming in at a close second.

Employee comfort is important for optimum productivity in the workplace, and a good chair can make all the difference!
